Exploring Vibration as a Sensory Multispecies perspective
The I.N.S.E.C.T. Summercamp, now in its third year, brings together people from diverse backgrounds, e.g. design researchers, artists, architects, ecologists, biologists, biotremologists and more. We call ourselves the I.N.S.E.C.T. Collective and we hope to make this annual event a critical locus for building and sharing new methodologies for a changing scholarly practice and world. We are particularly interested in engaging with the local ecosystem of the Bidstrup forest.
This years focus will evolve around the Research Network VIBRA and its attempts to bridge Multispecies Design, Inclusive Studies, Insect Vibration Communication and Vibroacoustics.
The framework for the 2023 summercamp consisted of Co creation and Embodiment as guiding principles, Companion Species and The Ecosystem of the Elder as foundational methods guiding our engagements with the more-than-human, and three themes that we processed through the focus groups Mapping Ecologies, Critical Making, and Earth Wisdom Practices. In the 2024 summercamp we are refining this approach together with you. The camp is based on methods of co-creation, which means that this event is open for you to explore your interests, ideas, and questions, so we can investigate and manifest them together. Our co-creation ranges from setting the food menu, designing activities and focus groups on particular topics, to arranging the schedule for the day. To create a successful co-created experience, we are looking for participants who can enthusiastically contribute to planning before the event (from June onwards, online), contributing during the camp (August 12 – 18 in person), and reflecting upon the experience (from September, online). Our goal is to create a community where we support one another, create continuing discussions and creative work by co-creating projects, events, research publications, artworks, etcetera.
